61 stores that won’t be open on Thanksgiving Day 2021

It wasn’t too long ago that holiday brick and mortar shopping crept into a real celebration: Thanksgiving Day. Retailers moved back from Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, to Thanksgiving Day, in the hope of capturing more sales while ostensibly helping shoppers get rid of their gluttony by racing in malls.

But a rebellion by some key retailers in recent years has seen the same Thanksgiving Day trot in malls; they halted Thanksgiving Day shopping, giving customers, as well as employees, a well-deserved vacation.

The pandemic has accelerated this trend, and in 2021 an even larger number of retailers, including some big names that had looked into Thanksgiving hours in previous years, announced that they would not open on Christmas Day. Thanksgiving. Yes, even in a year that will continue to be rocked by the historic supply chain collapse that will affect inventory and prices deep into the holiday shopping season.

Take a look at the 61 stores, listed alphabetically, that won’t be open on Thanksgiving Day this year. Note that this list could grow longer; some retailers have yet to announce their plans for Thanksgiving weekend. We will come back to this as the season progresses.

But if you’re one of those people who enjoys the old-fashioned thrill of the physical Thanksgiving night hunt and clings to your tradition of shopping at brick and mortar stores during the holidays, skip the time you used to shop late on Thanksgiving Day. and smartly plan your holiday shopping for Black Friday and beyond.
